Portrait by Alex CaoSophia Hashemi (b. Austin, Texas) is a Central New York-based artist whose practice studies memory, fragmentation, and the tension between visibility and obscurity, in art and in life, through screenprinting and collage. She cuts, layers, and reassembles imagery to mirror how consciousness revises experience, treating her subconscious as a partner in the process — listening for what it offers rather than forcing an outcome. Through this, she constructs psychologically charged spaces where darkness operates as an active presence, and meaning emerges through accumulation, erasure, and the slow negotiation of power.
