There are moments in my practice when everything feels recorded yet nothing can be recalled - when impressions, images, dissolving thoughts, and sensory traces accumulate, only to refuse their meaning back to me. The Witching Hour emerged from one of those intervals of suspension. I was drawn to the idea of an encounter between two selves: one searching, one withholding. The central image of a figure holding a book tightly to their face - buried in knowledge the viewer cannot see - became a symbol for this tension. Across from them sits another presence, equally obscured, equally incomplete: a being who witnesses but cannot decipher. One with the knowledge, one unable to reach it.
